If you’re reading this post right now, it’s likely you may be looking to break into the data space. Your main question might be, "how do I get a data role?" We'll answer that question and much more in this ongoing series.
Whether you’re completely new to the industry or just looking to change the path that you’re on, we’ve put together some of our favorite learning resources to get you on track to crush your career goals.
In this series, we’ll look at four data focused roles, providing you with our top five learning resources for each: Analytics Engineer, Data Scientist, Data Engineer, and BI (Business Intelligence) Analyst.
Keep in mind that learning something new is going to be a process. These resources will help you to begin your journey, but we encourage you to always be learning and sharpening your skills.
In addition to these resources, we highly recommend getting involved with LinkedIn, Twitter, and Reddit data communities to fully immerse yourself in the industry. If you’re in a different field right now, it would be a great idea to seek out a mentor from your company’s data or engineering team. They will be invaluable for you to learn what the role looks like in real world situations, and are usually happy to let you shadow what they’re working on.
In the meantime, please consider subscribing to our guided tour through data roles led by people doing the jobs. The series is called "Captain's Compass" and you can learn more about it and sign up for alerts by following this link.
